This Dark Chocolate Orange Granola tastes better than store-bought! Dark chocolate, dried cranberries, and some orange zest really takes regular old granola and transforms it in to an absolutely addictive snack or breakfast.

Granola is one of those things that tastes way better homemade but I always buy it out of convenience. But after making this I remembered how easy it was to start from scratch and now I don't want to buy store-bought again! It's delicious, easy, and you get to control the sweetness and the amount of add-ins which is the best part.
Let’s break it down:
First we'll mix together the ingredients we chose for the base. I used old fashioned oats, almonds, hemp seeds, and chia seeds because I have all 4 of these in my pantry at all times but if you have different ingredients feel free to add them in. I suggest walnuts, pecans, or coconut shreds! For the add-ins, I chose chocolate, cranberries, and orange zest. This goes so well with this recipe but if you want more dried fruit go for it! Granola is incredibly customizable so feel free to change it up! My top tip for granola is to add the chocolate and dried fruit after the baking but before it completely cools. This will ensure it doesn't burn.
What You Will Need For This Dark Chocolate Orange Granola
Main Ingredients:
- Old Fashioned Oats
- Slivered Almonds
- Orange Juice
- Chocolate Chunks
- Dried Cranberries
Substitutions:
The best part about homemade granola is that you can change and add whatever you enjoy or have on hand. I had hemp seeds and really enjoyed that addition but you can add walnuts instead of almonds or sunflower or pumpkin seeds. Skip the chocolate and add more dried fruit or add extra chocolate. It's really up to you!
How To Make The Best Granola
Add the chocolate and cranberries after the granola is done baking. The granola will still be warm so the chocolate will melt and when tossed it creates these delicious chocolate clusters.

Recipe
Dark Chocolate Orange Granola
Ingredients
- 3 cups Old Fashioned Oats
- 1 ½ cup Slivered Almonds
- ¼ cup Hemp Seeds
- 2 tablespoon Chia Seeds
- ¼ teaspoon Salt
- ½ cup Maple Syrup or Agave
- ¼ cup Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice
- ¼ cup Olive Oil or Coconut Oil
- Chocolate Chunks
- Dried Cranberries
- Zest of 1 Orange
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 300F.
- Stir together the oats, almonds, hemp seeds, chia seeds and salt in a large bowl.
- Whisk together the orange juice, maple syrup, and olive oil in a smaller bowl. Pour the wet mixture in to a dry mixture and stir until evenly coated.
- Transfer the granola to a large baking tray or on two baking trays to make sure everything evenly browns. Pat down the granola with your spatula and bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown. Stir the granola after 25 minutes and keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't burn. Every oven is different. When it's golden brown, it's done. Keep in mind the granola will become crunchier when cooled.
- When the granola is fresh out of the oven, add the chocolate chunks, cranberries, and orange zest. Stir just a few times to combine and then let it cool completely. Transfer to jars and store in the fridge. Enjoy!
