Ingredients
These matcha overnight oats come together in just 5 minutes and are easy to customize for the perfect easy breakfast.

Old-Fashioned Rolled Oats: Rolled oats give the best creamy texture. Quick oats tend to become too soft and mushy once soaked.
Matcha Powder: I used matcha from Jade Leaf and also love Ippodo, though it's a bit pricier. Ceremonial grade matcha has a brighter green color, smoother flavor, and less bitterness than culinary grade, making it ideal for overnight oats.
Chia Seeds: Chia seeds help thicken the oats and create a creamy, pudding-like consistency.
Oat Milk: Oat milk keeps these oats extra creamy, but coconut milk, soy milk, or almond milk all work well.
Non-Dairy Yogurt: Yogurt adds richness and creaminess. Use unsweetened so you can control the sweetness.
Maple Syrup: Just a touch balances the earthy flavor of the matcha and lightly sweetens the oats.

Helpful Equipment
I recommend buying a few jars or containers with lids so you can prep your overnight oats in advance to have them on hand for a few days.
I recommend either 8-ounce jars or 16-ounce jars.
This mason jar comes with a spoon and it's my absolute favorite way to prep overnight oats in.

Don't like matcha? Try these coffee overnight oats instead!
Old-Fashioned Oats: Quick oats will be thinner and have a mushy consistency but will work in a pinch. They don't hold up as long.
Oat Milk: Oat milk is my personal favorite but coconut milk is super tasty with these matcha flavored oats. Soy milk and almond milk will work as well.
Yogurt: Vegan yogurt makes these oats even creamier but you can omit them and add more milk.
Chia Seeds: If you don't enjoy chia seeds, try this recipe for Overnight Oats without Chia Seeds instead or use flax seeds.
Pure Maple Syrup: Brown sugar, agave syrup, date syrup, or coconut sugar will work.
Topping Ideas
This overnight oats recipe is perfect for customizing.
Keep it simple with chopped fruit or get creative!
Berries: Fresh strawberries are my go-to because matcha and strawberries are such a good combination! But blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries would be delicious.
Other fruit: Try banana slices, kiwis, or mango!
Granola: This blueberry granola is a delicious crunchy topping to add!
Shredded coconut or coconut flakes: Coconut and matcha taste great together!
Nuts and Seeds or Nut Butter: Almonds, walnuts, peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter, etc!
Dried Fruits: Try cranberries, apricots, or dates.
Jam or Fruit Preserves: Blackberry and strawberry are my favorites!

Storage
These matcha overnight oats are perfect for meal prep and can be prepped ahead and stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Tips & Tricks
Use a matcha powder you genuinely enjoy. It does not need to be expensive, but quality matters since matcha is the star flavor.
Sweeten to balance. Matcha has natural bitterness, so a little maple syrup helps round out the flavor.
Choose the right jar. A 16 oz jar works best if you plan to add toppings and want the lid to close, especially for on-the-go breakfasts.
Do not skip the chia seeds. They help thicken the oats and create a creamy texture. Ground flaxseed works as a substitute if needed.
Use rolled oats, not quick oats, and be sure to add enough plant milk so the oats soften properly overnight.
Add an extra spoonful of dairy-free yogurt, nut butter, or mashed banana for extra creaminess.
Always add a pinch of salt. It enhances the flavor of the oats and balances the sweetness without making them taste salty.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! Oat, soy, cashew, or coconut milk all work in this recipe. I'd recommend choosing unsweetened versions.
Soak the oats for at least 6 to 8 hours. If you skip chia seeds and don't replace them with flax, you may need to add a little extra oats since those ingredients help thicken the mixture.
Too much matcha or low-quality matcha can cause bitterness. Start with a small amount and you can balance it with a little more maple syrup.
